Surya Prakash Sharma Big data is the AI of 2015.

Gautam Ravi IMHO, in the School of Computing, Bigdata is an area of research funding but not a focus of study. The DBMS, DBMS Design, Data Visualization courses here have little to do with core "big data"/"analytics"/"data science". Clemson SoC so far's not offered any big data courses (There was a seminar sometime ago). There is funded big-data related research in the department.

Surya Prakash Sharma I wonder what research SoC is doing in Big Data. Because if you're working on algorithms, then that's Machine Learning (*cough* AI *cough*)

Gautam Ravi If you are working on cellular and genome data, it is bio informatics.. If you are working with disease features, it is health care analytics.. If you are working with insanely large datasets of physical features, it is biometrics.. If you are working with large format transaction datasets, it is data mining, if you are working with postgres, mysql, nosql, it is database management.. The hell is Big data then?

Surya Prakash Sharma http://lifehacker.com/career-spotlight-what-i-do-as-a-data-scientist-1684793405. There is also a big difference in the path you should take if you want a job after your Masters, or if you want to continue towards research.
Here are courses you will want to know to have have a top job in Big Data:
Probability
Statistics
Visualization
Database Management
Game Theory
Digital Signal Processing
Machine Learning
Programming
Algorithms
Human Centered Computing
Sociology
Psychology
Most universities (including Clemson) should offer these courses. How you apply them to your goal of being a data scientist is another question.
What is Big Data, does Clemson have Big Data courses?
